My evenings have recently been consumed by True Blood. Jarod and I have been renting the seasons and plowing through a couple of episodes almost every night. We are loving it, but we'll need a night off tonight while I head to the theater to catch Eclipse. I'm not going to beat around the bush. That's a lot of freaking vampires. And it's kind of sacrilegious to forego a night of Bill Compton for a night of Edward Cullen. I don't even know myself, anymore!

I had mint chocolate chip ice cream for lunch and added m&m's to it, because it just wasn't quite chocolatey enough. Ah. Now, that's the me that I can be proud of.

Literally all of the female employees at my office (that includes me) left together this morning to go to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, because they are celebrating their 1-year anniversary in Austin by offering $1 ice-blended dranky-dranks this weekend. Anyway, 5 of us squeezed into my car, and on the way, the whole what-are-you-doing-this-weekend conversation came up. Everyone had real plans! One coworker was driving to Dallas to visit family, another was planning to have dinner with friends and watch "the game," etc.

I didn't speak up, because honestly, I plan to shop.

I was driving my sister somewhere the other day, when a song playing on the radio captured her interest. She asked if I knew who the artist was, and since I didn't, I mentioned that I have the Shazam app on my iPhone.

Apparently, there is a similar app on the Blackberry, so she proceeded to hold her phone up so it could analyze the song. I let a good 5 seconds go by before I spoke up and informed her that she was holding her phone up to the a/c vent and not the speaker.

Holy crap. It still cracks me up.

A little bit of Korea.
A knock-knock joke by my 3 yr. old nephew:

Knock, knock.

Who's there?

Pickleman!

Pickleman who?

Poo-poo head!

Happiest of birthdays to the sweetest of little sisters.

Jarod decided at about 9:30 tonight that he wanted to watch a movie. He is currently watching Reservoir Dogs, and I just finished paying bills. Our lives are SO glamorous.

Work is going to be an utter shitstorm for the rest of this week, but I know I'll come out on the other end alive and loving life. I think I'm starting to get used to working full-time. I still hate getting up in the mornings, but everyday offers multiple opportunities to remind myself of just how capable and smart I am, and that is a wonderful thing.

I made the best sandwich ever for dinner, and now all I want to eat in life is salsa, hummus, lettuce, avocado, and swiss on whole wheat for the rest of my life.

We applied to foster for a dog rescue. I don't want to get anymore specific than that, because this is the internet and the internet can be scary. Suffice it to say that I am feeling very excited and nervous at the same time, and we haven't even received a call from the rescue, yet. I sometimes like to get ahead of myself, because that's a healthy and stress-free way to live. Except not.

Ramblerambleramble. Good night!

Happy 5th birthday to my sweet Dimitri! Jarod wasn't comfortable ordering a hamburger with no bun, so we ordered a hamburger with no toppings (and threw out the bun).

Sebastian and Dimitri think Broughton is kind of an asshole.
This morning, Jarod and I were on the couch relaxing after our weekend ritual of stuffing our faces with kolaches, when I randomly asked him, "If I die, will you wear my wedding rings on your pinky finger?"

"Yes."

"What about on a chain around your neck?"

"Yes. Will you wear my ring if I die?"

"No, I'd pawn it."

Tonight, we ate Veggie Heaven for dinner, and GOD I LOVE THAT PLACE.

I learned pretty early in our relationship that if I want something from Jarod, I need to ask for it - he's not particularly romantic, and apparently, he's also not a mind-reader. Surprise!

Anyway, I decided that I wanted a certain pair of earrings, and I must have really wanted them because 1) I never want earrings and 2) I sent Jarod a straightforward email with a link to the earrings and the message, "I would like these :)" That was in early April.

We get back from Korea and life goes on and it's the end of May when I remember that I wanted these particular earrings. How did he not buy me the earrings when I'd made it SO easy for him? I called him out, he pretended that he'd planned to surprise me (read: he completely forgot), and I reiterated that I sure would like those earrings!

Today, I drove home for lunch and Jarod was there.

"What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for you!"

"Liar! Did you take the afternoon off?"

"No, I really was waiting for you."

"Yeah, right - are you playing your game?"

"No, I was waiting for you!"

Blah, blah, blah. I went into the kitchen to heat up my leftovers, when Jarod quickly snatches something up from the breadbox. Do you know what he ALWAYS hides in the breadbox for me - my beloved Caramello bars.

"I saw that! I want chocolate!"

"Are you sure!"

"Yes, please!"

"Are you positive?"

"Yes, I would like chocolate, please!"

SURPRISE! He hands me my new earrings.

I like.

I saw it and liked it and bought it.

I love how my 3-yr. old nephew can spot my flaws in 1/100th of a second. "Momo, yo face red!"

Can't a girl not wear makeup without being criticized by a (little) man! Sheesh!

Our first Hibiscus bloom.

I made veggie sloppy joes with a side of baked asparagus for dinner, and we had Sara and John over to eat it. Then, we ate lemon cake with funfetti icing and ice cream for dessert, because we weren't quite at the point of vomiting, yet.

My dear friend, Sylvia, who I have known since middle school turned 26, today. She doesn't read this blog, but I love her and want to wish her a happy birthday, anyway.

To my friend who played in the middle school orchestra with me, to my college roommate who skipped class to watch Felicity reruns with me, to my bridesmaid who happily had my ass in her face as she bustled my wedding dress: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

Jarod was walking around with a headlight on his head (duh) about 2 minutes ago - for no reason other than to show me that the headlight gives off light. Not just any light, but there's a fog light (MY EYES) and night vision. Supposedly, he's going to wear that in the attic, but let's be honest. When is he actually going to go in the attic?

If his commitment to replace our light switches and outlets is any indication, I'd say in about a year.

At the grocery store tonight, I begged Jarod to please, please, please bake me a cake - any cake - with funfetti icing.

Proof that we're really real!
Jarod walked by with our ironing board muttering something about needing to get all of the clothes off of the bed. Usually, it's a pretty dumb question to ask someone walking by with an ironing board, "Are you going to iron?" But, I asked, and amazingly, he replied, "No. Maybe? I don't know."

"You're not going to iron?"

"Well, no. We just really need to get the clothes off of our bed."

"So, instead of putting the clothes away, you just walked all the way to the laundry room to get the ironing board and you're just going to move the clothes from the bed to the ironing board??"

"Maybe. They just need to be moved from the bed."

I'm no rocket scientist, but I really don't follow the logic.

My nephew, Nelson - Luci's big bro.
Jarod called me out for neglecting my blog. Oops!

Today, while Jarod was helping our friend, John, run cable at his new house, I decided that Broughton needed a nail trim. When we got out of the car at the large chain pet supply store, I was beaming with pride every 5 seconds, because he was just being sooooooo good. When I asked him to sit before crossing the street, he sat. When we entered the store, B-man didn't resist, even though he is not fond of the linoleum floors. He didn't pull me, he didn't try to jump on anyone - my crazy 1 1/2ish yr. old lab-mix was behaving!

And I absolutely loooove when strangers compliment him. When we walked around the corner to the grooming section, this couple immediately "awwwwww"-ed and he hit the floor and started army-crawling, because for some reason, he only then realized that he was on a linoleum floor. It was really cute and really funny.

Um, what else did I do today? I vacuumed, and that was boring because it didn't involve my dogs.

Eastside Cafe's Baked Brie with Apple Chutney

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

I'm going through the Sex and the City series, again. I like to watch it at lunch and after work and whenever, and since I'm spending a lot of time in front of the TV, Jarod ends up joining me for an episode here or there.

Tonight, we watched the episode where Carrie wants to buy her apartment but isn't considered a "desirable candidate" for a loan. Later on, she and Miranda go shopping for shoes.

I wasn't surprised when Jarod moaned, "That is so unattractive."

What? Her outfit? Her face? Lots of people have criticized both.

To my surprise, he answered,"a woman in her mid-thirties who is completely broke and trying to buy expensive shoes. That's really unattractive."

Is it weird that I find him attractive for feeling that way?

My niece, Luci.
